Chicken Farms Polluting the Environment
1. Pig Manure
into Energy:
Converting animal waste, in
this case pig manure, into energy seems to have brought benefits to Ong-Arj Suwunnatee, a Thai pig farmer. He built a biogas plant that
captures the methane gas from pig manure and converts it into
electricity, saving him money and reducing the strong smell of
accumulated animal waste, which pleases his neighbors. The Ministry of
Energy has set a target of building 1,540, 100 MW bio-gas plants by
2011.

Reducing animal
waste by turning it into energy helps restore the environment; however,
it does not alleviate the suffering and pain to which farmed animals are
subjected. The right way to reduce animal waste is to produce less of it
by raising fewer animals. Adopting a plant-based diet not only reduces
the number of animals raised for food but also helps restore God's Creation and our health.

cannot fly, and lay waste the sky as well as the earth.
~ Henry David Thoreau (1817 –1862), American author,
naturalist, and philosopher
3. Global Warming Affects Biodiversity:
According to researchers at
the University of York, rising
temperatures could wipe out more than half of the earth's species in the
next few centuries. The study analyzed fossil records and temperature
changes over 500 million years, and found that when more than 50 percent
of species disappeared at different times in history, the extinction
occurred during periods of high temperatures. The UN Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change predicts that average global temperatures are likely to rise
between 1.8 and 4 degrees Celsius
(3.2 and 7.2 Fahrenheit) by the end of the century, in part as a result
of greenhouse gases emissions.

Animal
agriculture contributes to approx. 18% of global warming emissions,
which accounts for more green house gases than all vehicles produce.
The transition to a plant-base diet can help reduce the emission of
global warming gases and hopefully help decrease the rate of rising
temperatures.
4. (RSV) Psalm 40:8
"I delight to do thy will,
O my God; thy law is within my heart."
When our desires
focus on God, we find joy in being obedient to God, while living in the
midst of a fallen world.
5. Chicken
Farms Polluting the Environment:
About 10% of the pollution
running from the state of Maryland into the Chesapeake Bay is a consequence
of the 1 billion of pounds of waste produced by chicken farms. Although
Maryland requires that large farms have management plans for minimizing
the amount of waste spread as fertilizer on land, it has no requirements
for how poultry facilities should limit runoff; and therefore, farmers
who raise chickens or use poultry litter as fertilizer receive minimal
or no oversight from the state.

Polluting God's
Creation by exploiting animals and resources indiscriminately does not
honor God; in fact, it only shows disobedience to God and brings misery
to us and the rest of Creation.
