1.
Waste Run-off Might Cause Amphibian Deformity: The
run-off from industrial agriculture might be the cause for terrible
deformities seen in amphibians. The culprits seem to be fertilizer and
animal waste that affect aquatic ecosystems. Scientists worry that these
mutations might be spread quickly since other animals prey on
amphibians.

The indiscriminate
exploitation of God's animals and the environment is bringing misery to
all Creation. We are called to be good stewards of the Earth, and we
should support sustainable practices that cause the least damage on the
environment and God's animals.
2. "Hear our prayer
O Lord ... for
animals that are overworked, underfed, and cruelly treated; for all
wistful creatures in captivity that beat their wings against bars; for
any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all
that must be put to death.... And for those who deal with them we ask a
heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us true
friends of the animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful."
~ Rev. Dr. Albert Schweitzer (1875 - 1965), Alsatian theologian,
musician, philosopher, physician and Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1952
3. Earth
is on Ecological Red: This year, again, the world moved
into 'ecological overdraft' 3 days earlier than the previous year.
'Ecological overdraft' means that human consumption exceeds the ability
of the earth to sustain it and according to the New Economics Foundation
(NEF), humanity began living beyond its environmental means in the
1980s. If everyone in the world had the same consumption rates as in the
United States it would take 5.3 planet earths to support them (3.1 for
France and Britain, 3.0 for Spain, 2.5 for Germany and 2.4 for Japan).

Modern animal
agriculture is a highly inefficient process that wastes Earth’s
resources. Transitioning to a plant-based diet could lessen the
consequences that generations to come are going to suffer due to our
poor stewardship of God's Creation.
4. (RSV)
Colossians 4:5-6
"Conduct
yourselves wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Let
your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know
how you ought to answer every one."
Our witness to the love of
Christ for all
Creation is effective
when communicating in a respectful, gracious and loving way. When we
share with others how a plant-based diet honors God's Creation let's
remember to do it in peace, love and harmony.
5. Al Gore’s Diet Targeted Over His Diet:
Al Gore is being targeted by environmental and animal
advocacy groups over his meat-based diet and its contribution to
greenhouse gases. While Al Gore claims to be a die-hard
environmentalist, his diet shows a different angle. He is scheduled to
give a lecture on global warming in Denver this month, and protesters
are planning to display billboards bearing a cartoon image of Gore
eating a drumstick and the message: "Too chicken to go vegetarian? Meat
is the No 1 cause of global warming". According to a recent UN Food and
Agriculture Organization research, animal agriculture generates 18 per
cent of the world's greenhouse gas emissions.

Livestock Greenhouse Gases
Contribution:
Abundant evidence
points to the fact that anima agriculture is one of the top contributors
to the world's most serious environmental problems, such as water
pollution, species loss, global warming gases, deforestation and use of
natural resources indiscriminately.
According to the United
Nations, livestock are responsible for 18% of greenhouse-gas emissions
worldwide, which accounts for more than all the planes, trains and
automobiles on the planet. However, little attention is given to this
subject while politicians, environmental lobbyists and other green
activist groups almost never discuss it. Most of the focus is given to
carbon dioxide emissions while, but as the article's writer puts it
"livestock emissions are no joke."
