1. Vegan Athlete:
Vegan athlete, Steph Davis, is one of the top rock climbers
in the world and the second of only two women to solo climb Yosemite's
El Capitan. She shares about her quest to find the right diet that would
optimize her physical level. After trying many different ones, she
realized that eating vegan was the right one. She states, "Climbers have
always said that you need animal protein to climb," … "But I tried all
these different things, and at one point I did a cleansing fast of about
a week, and when it was time to start again, everything was unappealing.
But after a couple of weeks, I found that I was eating vegan. So I went
with it. And strangely, I started to make these leaps in my climbing and
even in running. That's when I free-climbed El Capitan in a day. Then I
climbed even better in Patagonia."

4. (RSV) Psalms
119:60: "I hasten and do not delay to keep thy commandments."
There’s no real Faith
unless there’re actions. We are called to be good stewards of God’s
Creation by following Christ’s teachings of compassion, mercy and love.
5. Vegetables and Fruits Increase Breast Cancer
Survival Rates: Results
from the Women’s Healthy Eating and Living (WHEL) study, that included
more than 3,000 women, show that, in women previously diagnosed with
breast cancer, diets including at least five fruit and vegetable
servings daily, when coupled with physical activity, reduce mortality by
nearly 50 percent. Previous studies have shown that low-fat, high-fiber
diets improve cancer survival.

6. Confirmed H5N1 Strain Bird Flu Outbreak in
India: According to health officials,
India confirmed on
Thursday that the latest outbreak of bird flu in poultry was the H5N1
strain. To control the outbreak, government workers plan to slaughter
150,000 poultry around the affected farm in Manipur state. Although
India has had no reported cases of human bird flu, the World Health
Organization says that since 2003 a total of 192 people have died out of
319 people infected by the virus worldwide.

If we followed
Christ’s teaching of compassion and mercy, we would not exploit God’s
animals for our benefit causing great misery to them and humanity.
Countless poultry had been slaughtered in the last few years as a way to
prevent the spread of the bird flu virus. Adopting a plant based-diet
would help reduce the number of birds raised for food, and minimize the
spread of the virus.
