1. Hearing to Review Animal Concerns in Agriculture:  Witnesses from the AVMA and other organizations testified to a subcommittee of the House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture during a hearing in May to review the welfare of animals in agriculture. Some witnesses testified against the reality of factory farming, such as Barbara Determan, past president of the National Pork Producers Council, who said that America's pork producers raise their pigs humanely out of moral obligation and to protect their livelihood. Others, such as Wayne Pacelle, president of the Humane Society of the United States, cited examples of widespread animal abuse as in the case of gestation stalls for pregnant sows and nonambulatory animals in the food supply.

The callousness of the meat industry representatives at denying the suffering and fear farmed animals experience depicts the greed and profit that drive this industry. God calls us to take care of Creation, nad this invariable implies a just, compassionate and merciful treatment of all creatures.

2. "Pain is pain, whether it is inflicted on man or on beast; and the creature that suffers it, whether man or beast, being sensible of the misery of it whilst it lasts, suffers Evil…"
~ Rev. Humphrey Primatt, Anglican priest, from A Dissertation on the Duty of Mercy and the Sin of Cruelty to Brute Animals (1776)

3. Heartbreaking Expose of the Lives of Farmed Animals:  T.E. Sutton's new released book, "Compassion Is A Choice: All Animals Have A Face, Feelings and A Family" exposes the horrifying life of farmed animals. This book reaches the hearts of all those who want to make this world a better place by adopting a cruelty-free eating and living lifestyle.

4. Isaiah 65:25 “The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox; and dust shall be the serpent's food. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain, says the LORD."

What a beautiful and harmonious world God has planned. As Christians, we are called to actively participate in reconciling God's Creation looking forward to the Peaceable Kingdom.

5. Hanging Pigs in Ohio is Legal:  Dusty Stroud, the hog farmer in Ohio accused of animal cruelty has been exonerated of animal cruelty charges. An undercover video showed hanging a hog for several minutes as a form of killing the animal (see

The judge stated that there is no existing case law on the books in Ohio which makes the practice illegal.

It’s appalling that causing unimaginable pain and suffering to God’s animals is not only allowed but legal. In spite of the abundant evidence of animal abuse at factory farms and slaughter houses, consumers still support the animal industry by buying their products. Sharing information about the cruelty of the animal industry helps consumers choose a compassionate diet. Our calling, as children of God, is to be good stewards of His/Her Creation that implies showing compassion and love to all creatures.

6. Overfishing in the US:  According to the "2006 Report of Status of US Fisheries", overfishing further depleted US fish populations in 2006. Forty-seven fish stocks were found to have depleted populations in 2006, compared with 43 the previous year, and 48 were being overfished last year compared with 45 in 2005. "Congress recently passed a law to end overfishing, but we need strong rules to implement it," said Matt Rand of the National Environmental Trust conservation group.

As long as we continue exploiting the environment and God’s creatures as if there were no consequences, we are bringing misery to all Creation. A plant-based diet would help alleviate animal suffering and save species from extinction.
