Elle Magazine Addresses Veganism:
An article titled “The Carnivore’s Dilemma” in the
most recent issue of Elle magazine addresses the issues surrounding
meat-eating (health, animals and the environment) as well as the popular
myths surrounding veganism (not enough protein intake, low in calcium,
etc.).
The authors
highlight the benefits of a plant-based diet and even try it themselves.
They mention Michael Pollan's "The Omnivores Dilemma", Anna Lappe's and
Bryant Terry's "Grub" and “The Way We Eat: Why Our Food Choices Matter”
by ethicists Peter Singer and Jim Mason.

2.
"The moral
evils of a flesh diet are not less marked than are the physical ills.
Flesh food is injurious to health, and whatever affects the body has a
corresponding effect on the mind and the soul. Think of the cruelty to
animals meat-eating involves, and its effect on those who inflict and
those who behold it. How it destroys the tenderness with which we should
regard those creatures of God!"
~ Ellen White
(1827 –1915), Seventh Day
Adventists co-founder
3. New PCRM
website: The Physicians Committee for Responsible
Medicine (PCRM) has release its new website
www.NutritionMD.org, which helps consumers and health care
professionals understand the links between healthy eating habits and
good health. It provides healthful recipes, tips on healthy weight
management, in-depth information about heart disease, diabetes, and
other medical conditions, and much more. Share it with friends and
family and help spread the word about the benefits of a plant-based diet
for all of God’s Creation.
4.
(RSV) Colossians 4:5-6
"Conduct yourselves wisely
toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Let your speech always be
gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to
answer every one."
Our witness to
the love of Christ for all Creation is effective when communicating in a
respectful, gracious and loving way. When we share with others how a
plant-based diet honors God's Creation let's remember to do it in peace,
love and harmony.
5. Fish Good for the Heart? Think again!
A new study in the May issue of the American Journal of
Cardiology suggests that fish consumption does not improve heart health
or prevent coronary heart disease since the supposed heart benefits
associated with a diet high in omega-3 fatty acids from fish likely
result from the convergence of higher fish intakes with overall
healthier dietary patterns, rather than any specific benefit of omega-3
fatty acids from fish. The study tracked nutritional data for 1,441
Americans over nine years.

Vegetarian Cuisine More Popular:
According to Dennis Bayomi,
president of VegDining.com, there are 1,000 to 1,200 vegetarian
restaurants in the U.S., almost double the number seven years ago. This
increase seems to be due to an expanding global pantry and advances in
cooking that allow chefs to prepare proteins such as tofu with a taste
and texture similar to meat.
