Animals’ feelings: Marc Bekoff, biologist, animal behaviorist and professor emeritus at the University of Colorado writes a compelling essay about the emotions that animals feel. Dr. Bekoff believes it’s very important for humans to recognize that animals are capable of feeling joy, fear, sadness, etc. for that belief shapes the way we relate to them. Referring to the way we treat animals he says, “We must not simply continue with the status quo because that is what we've always done and it's convenient to do so.”… “Quite often, what we accept as "good welfare" isn't "good enough."” Marc Bekoff also raises the issue of our silencing the emotions of animals, when it is their emotions that indicate what we can or cannot do to them.

Berkeley City Council Denounces Battery Cages: A resolution by the Berkeley City Council opposing the use of battery cages was approved on April 24. It said the council "opposes battery cage egg production, based on the inherent cruelty of confining egg-laying hens in battery cages," and also "encourages consumers of eggs not to purchase eggs produced by caged hens."

20070425&ID=6800652Once again, consumers and animal advocates have made their voice heard. The phasing out of battery cages will alleviate some of the suffering that hens go through. Recognizing that God’s animals are sentient beings who experience joy, pain and fear, helps us relate to them in a loving and compassionate way.

Our Creator is a loving and compassionate God who cares for all creatures. n today’s world, animals are weak and needy, and often victimized by humans. Jesus’ teachings encourage us to protect, love, and relieve them from their oppressors. A plant-based diet helps us alleviate their suffering and free them from their torment.
5. How Humane is Your City? The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has released a “Humane Index” for cities around the US. This index takes into account overall humanness, cruelty cases, animals in the entertainment industry, fur sales, vegetarian meals, etc. in every city listed.

Compassion in World Farming Trust (CIWF Trust) Conference: Delegates from around the globe gathered at the CIWF Trust Conference In March to address the subject of animal sentience and our relationship with them. Speakers at the conference emphasized on the abundant evidence that animals are not devoid of feelings and emotions.
Professor Marc Bekoff, of the University of Colorado, US, said, "And what animals feel matters very much as they try to negotiate their lives in a human-dominated and often abusive world, in which they are mere pawns in our incessant and obsessive attempts to control their lives for our and not their benefit."
