1. Fruits and vegetables help prevent cancer: Three new studies
presented at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer
Research found evidence that vegetables and fruits help lower your
chances of getting certain cancers and even increase cancer survival.
Although both fruits and vegetables were found to offer protective
properties, vegetables appeared to offer more cancer prevention than
fruits alone did.

A plant-based diet is a peaceful and compassionate way to relate to
God’s animals and stay healthy. It also helps us witness the love of
Christ for all Creation!
2. "The animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were
not created for humans any more than black people were made for white,
or women created for men."
~ Alice Walker (1944 - present),
African-American author, environmentalist and animal advocate, who
received the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1983 for her novel The Color
Purple.
3. Arsenic use in chicken feed:
Health experts and environmentalist
are concerned about the wide-spread practice of adding arsenic-based
compounds to most chicken feed. Roxarsone, the most common arsenic-based
additive used in chicken feed, is fairly benign; however, part of it
converts into inorganic arsenic within the bird, and the rest is
transformed into inorganic forms after the bird excretes it. According
to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), long-term exposure to
inorganic arsenic can cause bladder, lung, skin, kidney, and colon
cancer, as well as deleterious immunological, neurological, and
endocrine effects.

4. (RSV) Psalms 63:1
"O God, thou art my God, I seek thee, my soul
thirsts for thee; my flesh faints for thee, as in a dry and weary land
where no water is."
We live in a world beset by injustice and suffering; however, our
hope and faith rests in a loving God who cares very much for all His/Her
Creation. Our Creator gives us the strength to live out Christ's
teachings of compassion, mercy and love.
5. India's first vegetarian airline:
MDLR Airlines in India has
announced their decision to serve wide variety of multi-cuisine
vegetarian specialties and no meat-based dishes at all. Operations will
start in May 2007 and will connect the cities of Chandigarh, New Delhi,

It’s great news that this airline is setting a precedent that
hopefully others will follow. Serving only vegetarian dishes shows
compassion toward animals, and concern for our health and the
environment.
6. New Case of Birdflu in Ostrich: Kuwait officials announced on
Sunday that an ostrich was found to have the H5N1 strain of birdflu.
Kuwait has culled around 1.7 million birds, banned import of live birds,
and closed down the country's zoo as well as poultry shops in order to
minimize the spread of the virus.

The way we irresponsibly manipulate the environment and God’s
creatures for our benefit has brought grave consequences to us. In this
case, the intense confinement and stress poultry is subjected to fosters
the spread of the birdflu virus. A plant-based diet helps us to restore
harmony and balance in God’s Creation.
