1. S. Korea rejects US beef shipment:
The finding of high dioxin levels in an American beef shipment to South
Korea meant bad news for the U.S. cattle industry after an almost
three-year ban over mad cow disease.
According to Kim Mee-kyung, a senior researcher at the quarantine
service, dioxin is sometimes found in beef because of environmental
pollution contaminating the food chain. However, Agriculture Secretary
Mike Johanns believes that this rejection “clearly illustrates that
South Korean officials are determined to find an excuse to reject all
beef products from the United States.“

2. "It is a
great delusion to suppose that flesh of any kind is essential to
health."
~ William Booth (1829-1912), General, founder of the Salvation
Army.
3. Blood transfusions and Mad Cow disease:
A recent study published in The Lancelet shows that the human form of
mad cow disease can be passed from person to person through blood
transfusions. Researches said that samples from a 32-year-old British
man who died from Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease confirmed he
contracted it from a blood donor, and two others from a group of 66
people who received infected blood died before their illnesses were
confirmed.

Sometimes sickness is a consequence of or own actions. The
exploitation of animals not only causes tremendous suffering to them,
but to us. Hopefully, humanity will realize that compassion and love
toward all Creation help us live healthier, fuller lives.
4. (RSV)
Psalm 143:10 “Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my
God! Let thy good spirit lead me on a level path!”
Jesus’ example and teachings show us the path to fulfilling God’s
will for us. We were created in God’s image of love and are called t be
witness of God’s love for all Creation.
5. Fast Food
Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal debut: On
November 17th of 2006, the movie Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the
All-American Meal made its debut in US theaters.
The movie revolves around a fictional chain called Mickey's and
describes the way farm animals are raised in today’s modern factory
plants. It includes scenes filmed in a Mexican slaughterplant showing
with graphic detail every step from the stunning of the animal until its
flesh is processed for food. Rebecca Weiss, writer for The Cornell Daily
Sun says, “There are a few scenes of unrelenting carnage, more
mercilessly graphic than anything you’ll have ever seen in the theatres.
Worse, there’s no way to console yourself afterwards — everything you’ve
seen is 100% real and all true to life” … ““The amount of times that
innards and giblet are depicted onscreen may convert the most staunch
carnivore into a cow-hugging tofu-championing vegetarian, nay, vegan.”

6. E. coli
vaccine: A vaccine that targets Escherichia coli O157:H7
has been granted preliminary approval by the Canadian Food Inspection
Agency. The E. Coli virulent strain had caused serious problems in 2006
by contaminating fresh produce and the possibility of controlling E.
coli spread means good news for health organizations and food-related
industries. The Canadian scientists who developed the vaccine claim that
it reduces the shedding of E. coli O157:H7 in cattle’s manure by up to
70%. The U.S. Department of Agriculture also is studying the vaccine.
