It is shameful that almost all American humane societies and SPCAs ignore the cruelty of rodeos. Some are actually complicit with rodeo animal abusers. In South Africa, however, one SPCA is taking action.

From The New Age:

The National Council of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) will lay charges against seven people, including a veterinarian, for animal cruelty and torture.

This comes after organisers of a rodeo event in Viljoenskroon were apparently involved in the torture of bulls by using bucking straps on them, despite the NSPCA’s acquiring of a warrant to prevent the use of bucking straps.

The bucking strap, also known as flank strap, is tightly cinched around the bulls abdomen, which causes the animals to kick vigorously to try to rid themselves of the torment.

The NSPCA is absolutely right in charging for torture. Let’s hope that SPCAs here eventually do the right thing as well.
