ADI is delighted to announce that Have Trunk Will Travel (HTWT), previously filmed by ADI repeatedly beating and using stun guns on their elephants, have determined not to return to the Kern County Fair! Last April, the Fair Board decided to phase out the act over 2 years, citing public safety. We celebrate this victory, but will not rest until HTWT elephants are free from the vicious beatings and day-long chaining.

We also thank the compassionate local citizens who protested and spoke at Kern County Fair Board meetings alongside ADI; we have no doubt these efforts made the difference in bringing these abusive rides to an end.

ADIís undercover investigation of HTWT, released in 2011, revealed horrific abuse, including chaining for 12 hours/day and repeated beatings and electrical shocks with stun guns (contrary to California law) during routine husbandry and training. Other venues, including the Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego Fairs, and the Santa Ana Zoo severed ties with HTWT after seeing ADIís evidence.

Watch the video: No Hollywood ending for Tai and Rosie.

HTWT admits the video depicts its trainers and elephants, but stands by their inhumane methods. HTWT is no longer certified by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

ADI thanks its supporters, who make investigations like this possible, bringing to light abuses so often hidden in the shadows.
