Why do they force feed those geese? Are they sick or are they just getting them fat so that they can eat them?

Dear Samantha:
Thank you for writing back.
They force-feed the ducks and geese to make them sick so that they get a diseased and extremely swollen liver. This is excruciatingly painful and goes on for 28 days, just so they turn they livers into a pate called foie gras.
